Whole Wheat Apple Kuchen

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of oat flour
  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1/4 cup of honey or maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 3-4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thinly
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
  • Juice of half a lemon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a tart or cake pan with some coconut oil or olive oil.

  2. In a large bowl, mix the flours, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, beat the coconut oil or olive oil, honey (or maple syrup), and egg until well combined.

  4. Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a homogeneous dough forms.

  5. Roll out the dough in the prepared pan, pressing it evenly along the bottom and up the sides.

  6. In a small bowl, mix the apple slices with the cinnamon, honey (or maple syrup), and lemon juice.

  7. Spread the apple slices over the dough in the pan, covering the entire surface evenly.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the dough is golden and the apples are tender.

  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool before cutting into portions and serving.
